Maybe just give it a go? Pack up a traveling pack, weigh it, and plan a nice walk around town for 4 hours.
Re-evaluate what ya really want to carry. Repeat if necessary.
I would think one third of your body weight is a good max to shoot for, but the least possible is always best.
I'd recommend the weekly meal. Doesn't seem like there are abundant volunteer for housing opportunities, but the conversation was good.
The food bank was definitely worth checking out.
I haven't been to a rainbow gathering since 2008, so a little grain of salt, but ...
Bring some cigs or tobacco for Nic at Night. They give out free smokes to people who need a smoke.
Get involved with helping some kind of camp, or help set up, or help clean up after the gathering. This all...
I checked out the Catholic Worker Movement house in Tacoma (Guadalupe House) .
Was alright. Seems like kind of a rough neighborhood, but the people at the Catholic Worker house were all nice. They do a nice meal every week. There is also a really big food bank in the neighborhood.
From my experience helping in groups like Food Not Bombs (though I don't have any actual experience being homeless, so grain of salt here), It would seem that there are a number of factors that can make some one homeless.
I think the main factor being that you don't have the friend/family...
Microcosm publishing has a great book on building homemade pontoon boats. I used to have the book, and if I remember correctly I believe the idea is to just collect a bunch of plastic containers that can be sealed and net them under the platform evenly.
Here's a link to the book...
I'll probably leave early on Tuesday if I can find a place to stay. I'm trying to find somebody with an extra couch to sleep on or a cheap hostel if ya happen to know anywhere. No pressure though.
Would love to check out the zine collection! The Tacoma Anarchist Book faire sounds pretty bad ass, Unfortunately I'm heading out on Wednesday to get back to Eastern Washington.
Hey y'all I'm gonna be in Olympia for a day on Monday 8/28, and Tacoma
on Tuesday 8/29.
What should I check out? I'm open to any and all suggestions.
I'm trying to find some cool organizations to volunteer for, radical spaces, cool book stores, glass art supplies shops.
And of course if any...
50th annual Tonasket Barter Faire/Okanogan Family Faire (October 20th-22nd)
Would love to see some fellow planet squatters there. You can volunteer for a camping pass. Really good time.
We'll dang I'll be sad to see STP go but I get where you're coming from. Seems like you've been holding down solo for a while now, and that's a lot of work.
STP has certainly been a wealth of information and inspiration, and I'll definitely follow if it rolls into some other community.
I hope...
A few ideas I have... Might be better might not be
* A flea market forum section where people can sell their art or used gear or whatever.
* I think having an animated banner below the squat the planet logo on the home page would be a good idea. Something that linked to the Etsy and had...
Is that the bridge where everyone gathers to watch the bats come out at dusk? If so there's a park under there and I would imagine that's where a show would be.
Those all seem like great perks of flip-flops, but I've never been able to walk in them without having them fly off my feet. It's Jesus sandals strapped to my foot for me. I feel like ya have to pinch your toes together slightly all day to rock flip-flops
I mean are ya gonna be working on the road too? If you anticipate a steady stream of income, might be worth it to just have some funds to save up to replace it if need be, and maybe see if you can insure that somehow? Also backing up stuff on a cloud service would probably put your mind at ease...

A couple I met at a festival put out a neat little 3 part zine on their travels in a van at trannytramping.wordpress.com
A cool dude I met at a festival puts put cool videos about his world travels on...
Welcome back to the squat. I can very much relate to being surrounded by those kind of folks that hate on trans and gay people and people who dare to exist without paying rent. I'm glad this website exists, it helps keep me sane In such places.
Haven't been homeless and I'm only an aspiring traveler like yourself at this point that comes from privilege, so grain of salt here...
I think there's a huge difference between being a drifter or a minimalist traveler and being homeless. The most important thing would be don't ever pretend...
Im on US mobile. Also online only, so ya need an address to get the sim card.
I get unlimited calls and texts, plus 25gb of data with hotspot capabilities for like $32ish a month. Been satisfied with them so far.
Good info, thanks.
I wish I could get off grid, but Im trying to put a glassblowing studio in there. From my math a solar system that could handle a kiln, ventilation, and an oxygen system would require a pretty sizable solar system and battery bank. I think im gonna have to find somewhere with...
Yeah not in a high pressure situation. Really ok with paying a decent amount for somthng since Ill be living and working in it for a while. I think I will hold out until I find a good deal. Man the market for a trailer is all over the place. There's people on FB marketplace and Craigslist want...
Very informative, thank you.
The soul purpose of said abode would be for the homebase. The only reason I would like wheels on it is if either whatever situation I'm keeping it at does not work out and I have to move it elsewhere, or if it becomes to broken down and I have to get a new one or...
So I'm trying to setup a homebase via getting a trailer/bus/rv, puting a glassblowing studio and living space in said wheel home thing, and finding a friendly farmer somewhere who will let me who will let me keep it there for a small amount every month (probably $200 to $400 plus electricity im...
A cheap homebase and travelling the states to start. I got a trailer Im fixing up. Gonna make that a home and small glass shop. Then try to get a small trailer shop and a truck big enough to pull it. Go town to town and work small labor gigs and blow glass. Then on to the next one when that gets...
I would think A cheap battery pack and a plug with two usb ports would be a smart move. That way you can plug in your phone to charge and have extra juice for later at the same time.
Been going since about 2005 only missing a few years. Yeah not free anymore, but you can volunteer for a few hours to get in for free. I see a lot of people who bring their dogs anyway. And yeah i think the no drugs thing just makes for a nice flyer ;) im sure one can still do plenty of trading
Thought yall might enjoy this documentary that some friends of a friend of mine made about their race from Washington state to Alaska in a sail/row boat. Really well made film i think.
Eh if you really wanna screw with one you could get it and keep your eye on the facebook and craigslist free sections, maybe dumpster dive some electronics too. Salvage some parts and see what comes to ya. Might not be to cost effective time wise, but would be easy on the wallet and youd learn a...
One feature I would find useful is to date individual posts in a post in a way similar to how the original post is dated (hopefully that makes sense). That way you know how recently topics have been discussed or how recent ongoing information is.
I think gig work such as doordashing and imstacart is worth mentioning in the 'making money' section. This kind of work can be done anywhere, and would be especially helpful to rubber tramps.
Glad the date got postponed honestly, as I would very much like to thumb through my 1st edition and help...
Weir hot springs is free and close by and worth checking out.
Also there's a cool couch surfing community called orange acres about half an hour away. Not sure if it's still there though.
They do a fun rugby tournament called MaggotFest every year.
There was also this thing called the Easter...
I don't know your mental health circumstances, but it sounds like ya know having a 9-5 and an apartment wouldn't be to good for your mental health. Parents and 'normal' people are always gonna worry and suggest otherwise. Maybe put off traveling long enough to have funds saved up for if ya end...
I would think just keep 1 or 2 non fiction books to reference if they are things you use a lot (like field guides for foraging books), and 1 fiction book. Don't know about you, but I'm generally only reading one book at a time. Maybe read one and drop it off at a free library to help with the...
Great Idea!
Read the biographical sketch and preface as well. She was sure an interesting and nuanced thinker if she took a little from philosophies like Proudhoun and philosophies like Alexander Berkman and Max Stirner.
"The very fact that most people attend meetings only if aroused by...
