    Counting the Nomad population

That’s the oogle code of 1998. Get your head out of your ass. Your entitled to an opinion, but your breaking rule #3 and you sound like a moron.

    Counting the Nomad population

it’s just that it’s bullshit, that’s all. Whatever your interpretation of a hobo is, your obvious at some time or another. By your odor, your clothes, the sleeping pad on your backpack or whatever it is. So what do hard to comprehend about someone’s curiosity of the number of people living...

    Counting the Nomad population

Fascinating idea. I like it. It’s probably going to be difficult to get accurate data. Variabilities in people’s habits and lifestyle, the fact we move, and the fact some of us hold down jobs and aren’t getting arrested often would probably make it harder than heroin addicts.

What route would you take from portland to taos-ish?

84 is great. Who doesn’t like the Columbia river Gorge and Snake River Plain? Jesus! I think Coywolfs idea is great. 395 is pretty awesome and takes you through a lot of gorgeous mountains and open country. You could also take 84 to i-15 to SLC. Then take whatever Highway it is from Provo and...

Its winter time, im homeless and got no where to live/go? what do i do?

I would say you should prioritize your needs, and whatever it takes to fulfill them. 1. Consider staying away from your s/o if that’s possible somehow (I know how that sounds) If you end up spending your living money on drugs with her, it seems like it would be very hard to improve your...

Outdoor camping in the PNW during the winter.

I was born here, spent winters outdoors and honestly it’s not the worst. It CAN be pretty miserable at times tho, especially if your unprepared when storms come thru. You should be able to stay comfortable enough with pretty average winter gear, definitely have some waterproof layers. Expect a...

    Bumming in Roseville....

Totally. Unless he knows people there or something. I know people who like staying in Folsom too, maybe worth checking out. I’ve never been.

Would you immigrate to a different country?

And you can find some incredibly cheap property in rural towns.. Even someone in this community could save enough to buy an old stone home. I’ve always thought about Sourhern Europe regardless. Those people know how to live, food, wine, and friends. A high quality of living is afforadble and...

I can see why so many homeless abuse meth

10 years ago, I didn’t meet traveling people who did this shit. It was always locals and homebums, but that’s changed in the last 4-5 years and I don’t know why. I’ve done it. You can definitely get some stuff done, but the instability it creates isn’t even close to being worth productivity...

I can see why so many homeless abuse meth

That movement is started, but I think there are still some distinctions between the two, no? Us locals call it Methford, OR

    Bumming in Roseville....

I second what Coywolf said pretty much. There’s a Walmart pretty close to the yard. If your gonna be that much better off in Portland I’d make a little $, hit up some shelters for blankets and just ride north.. Its an easy enough hop, and only 10-12 hours through the mountains. If your gonna...

Share your greyhound/shame hound/dirty dog horror stories

Not sure this is entirely a “greyhound horror story”, but it was a crazy, disorienting and stresssf experience none the less. At one point I thought I was catching a felony. April 2008. Houston. I’m bored as shit, been waiting in the station for hours when this huge, muscular, black dude with a...

Looking to interview Hitchhikers for a Magazine in NYC

However, I can also attest that not all of the misinterpreting of stories is intentional. It's extremely difficult to portray something that you've never experienced first hand. This ^ especially the last sentence. I’d venture the guess that people who omit segments of a quote, or other...

Looking to interview Hitchhikers for a Magazine in NYC

I feel strongly that this culture and people in it have important things to share with the world, for the greater good. Some people won’t understand, be we can’t have an impact staying the shadows. Okay, I’m done now.

Looking to interview Hitchhikers for a Magazine in NYC

You both have valid points, I jumped the gun and made some assumptions here. I have 100% been a proponent to keeping it all hush hush, until recently. It’s all so blown out now, there’s no hiding the thing anymore and my attention has shifted to sharing the positive virtues of the lifestyle with...

Looking to interview Hitchhikers for a Magazine in NYC

I hope somebody in NYC with their head on straight steps up to bat on this one. This is an opportunity to share your perspective, to have your thoughts and feelings and all the things you reject about society actually resonate within SOCIETY. Isn’t that where it counts? Sticking within the...

Looking to interview Hitchhikers for a Magazine in NYC

Of course STP gets a lot of these posts. It’s the prominent online community and intentionally provides information for alternative travel. I’m dissapointed, but not surprised by most of the responses here. It’s like you don’t even comprehend her words, — read this and tell me you honestly...

How long have you pushed your oil life?

When I was in my early 20s and way too strung out keeping myself alive, I neglected a 1989 Dodge Dakota of an oil change for nearly 20,000 miles on conventional oil. I barely noticed. Not good at all, but the engine still ran like a champ.

Greenhorn with a hard-on for Stobe The Hobo

Totally. He barely got his feet on the bottom rung. The train was moving too quick, and he almost didn’t have the speed/strength to overcome its momentum and actually get his feet high enough to hit the ladder. I winced cause I’ve done it. That’s where you get dragged.

Greenhorn with a hard-on for Stobe The Hobo

Stobe had some subpar safety standards, his catch-out on the fly in Wishram was pretty borderline. I winced. People who want to down talk him are probably just jealous of the success his videos had.. Most anybody who rides hard and rides often has had a close call or two. Just don’t do anything...

    Schwillam/Sirius/Dru/Sean/Audio/What the fuck Ever.

Ignore the people who want to discredit you. If you are genuine, simply have faith in yourself and know that your actions will speak for themselves and nobody will have to wonder anymore. I believe people can change, and acknowledging your mistakes is step number one. But this is only the stupid...

Hey everyone, just saying hi. Glad to be a part of this finally, met some members recently who inspired me to stop lurking and make an account here. I’ve been riding trains for 10 years, using them as free transport for both work and leisure. I live a relatively normal/straight life now...
