Average daily distance with loaded touring bike

I just finished a 2000 mile ride in 19 days but not with a trailer and dog. Currently, for 2021 my daily riding avg is 88.7 miles per day and that's right at 8 hrs on the bike, 12 hours traveling, taking breaks, etc. I have gps data to share if anyone is in doubt. I do doubt the mileage with...

Port Orford Oregon, 8-11-20, the morning I started a 5000 mile coast to coast offroad bikepacking trip. I'm in Ely, NV now. Taking a short break to fatten up a little after 1200 miles in 20 days. Brutal.

If you had to live on a bike the rest of your life?

All the suggestions I see are great but most importantly if you intend to spend the rest of your life on the bike i suggest you just go ride a bunch of different models. Go to different bike shops and take them for a test ride. Not that there are not a bunch of great out if the box bikes being...

Average daily distance with loaded touring bike

I guess it's all what you want to do and maybe using the word 'bike touring' has different meanings for some, but I have many many days well into 100 miles /day. Gear weight, bike, conditioning and endurance all account for how far you can go. I ride fully self support, carrying the least amount...

    Bike touring as a beginer

I recently ended a 35000mile /3 year bike tour. Yes, 1900 miles in a month is relatively not a problem. In 2017 I rode 2100 in 20 days on a loaded bike. Don't expect big miles in the first few days. 4-6 days to get your juju in sync. Maybe more. What kind of bike? How much luggage? Pavement...

Offline maps in a samsung galaxy tab?

Well, Google maps has an offline maps option as well. Works great for most bike touring, let's you know when you need to update and is just plain easy. Gaia GPS is another app that can work well too. It will collect all sorts of data for you and there are tons of map overlays to help plan your...

    Taos

I haven't been here in 20+ years, curious about camping/squatting close to town in Taos. I know the Mesa is wide open, just wanting to explore town a little. Any stories, suggestions?

    Gainesville? Fest16. Anyone else here?

Plenty of easy places to squat, friendly town, great fall weather and a big festival this weekend. Anyone else here? I didn't come to Gainesville for Fest16 but was just pedaling through. Looks like it's gonna be a fun weekend.

    Anyone in or near Gainesville?

I've been in Gainesville all week. Expected to see more folks but not so. Fest16 is this weekend. Probably gonna stick around and then start pedaling west for the winter. Anyone here?

    Event Fest 16 Gainesville!

If you are camping there are plenty of places. Of my several years on the road I have found Gains villa very easy to find a place to squat. Great town. Been here all week and it's been so easy to find a sleeping space.

2016 Jamboree 2017 Jamboree Possibilities: Great American Total Eclipse

Depending on where my bike takes me I am hoping to be just west of Casper, Wyoming or somewhere in the Sandhills of Nebraska for this event. Maybe Great Smokey Mountains. I have been keeping tabs on this event for almost 2 years and am not going to miss it.

2017 Cycle tour finally kicking off

I am leaving tucson on my newest bike saturday . Headed across the desert westbound, gonna make a stop at Slab City then to Joshua Tree for spring bloom. If you are heading north or south, Humboldt, Mendo, King Range, Shelter Cove, etc. Wildlife that has an appetite is real. Not to sound boss or nothing but making a first impression when in close quarters with a Lion is a one shot deal. Here are pics of a few locations of where I have had...

Thoughts on cycling with a cat

I think summertime heat is def a reason for me to not get a travelling cat. I punish myself enough cycling through barren stretches of heat, I don't have any interest in punishing an innocent pet. Appreciate all the input. Safe travels.

Thoughts on cycling with a cat

I've been on tour for going on 3 yrs now. Only just found StP a few months ago. I dig it. Resources, personalities, and opinions abound. I am a very solitary creature by nature but have recently been giving thought as to what it may be like to cycle tour with a cat? I had a cat when I was a...

    What Kind of Bicycle?

But a road bike limits you to being on a road. I've been touring virtually 100 % since 2014, almost 20000 miles, and prefer mountain bike and trailer. Panniers are great but limit where you can go based on volume capability. I have spent upwards of a week on forest service roads through out the...

I like the BOB trailer vs Burley Nomad for durability mostly. Yrs ago when I was a normal working class cyclist touring I had panniers and they are great for touring. I am living this now and prefer the versatility of a trailer that can be dropped off/left at a camp. Also, #Capacity. Travelling...

    bike co-ops?

Bicas bike co-op in Tucson is great. Very helpful, lots of parts and tools. If low on funds can volunteer in exchange for parts and shop time. http://bicas.org/ Another that I never fail to pass by is the Ft Collins community bike co-op. Great selection of parts and plenty of room to work...

    Camping in National Parks

National parks and rangers can arrest you for illegal camping. It is a statute. You can get a 'back country permit'. Having this permit means you need to camp at least one mile from any designated road or waterway. These are generally for thru hikers and extended trip hikers. I've done my share...

    Photos Lets see those bikes!

I've been travelling via bicycle, USA, Canada and Mexico for 16+ months with this set up. The bike was one that I used to race in the mid 90's, has been all over the world, custom geometry, front and rear lkck out suspension. Burley Nomad trailer was bought in NM in July 2016 (they suck. Get a...
