eating healthy - good for what ails ya!

i've been wanting to post about this for a while, and i don't really know how but just to share some of my experiences and thoughts: it's first of all amazing to me how little thought a lot of people give to food. i've lived off of dumpsters and food not bombs off and on for years at a time...

Bike bums? Gonna do it up.

i got all geared to go, then found an amazing place to squat and busk, and an amazing girlfriend...so i'm trying to convince her we should bike to FL this winter.

That's Albuquerque dummies...SF is a hidden gem. Tons of space to camp, beautiful weather, southern Rockies, buskers well tipped by tourists and local weirdos.

Dealing with heat - shade tarp?

ive got a pretty sweet camp spot; heats up real quick when the sun is up tho & since my tent is stupidly bright colors, I covered it with a camo tarp. I threw this off as soon as I got up; it can't be helping the heat & the site is reasonably well hidden. I was thinking about getting a bigger...

    Morgan & Outlaw

hope I'm remembering their names right. These two train punx picked me up hitching in Mississippi last month, there was talk theyd be in NM soon and I wrote my contact info on a pad in her van, haven't heard from them since. He has "hobo pride" face ink. Just thinking of them and wishing them well.

News & Blogs “Big Mountain is Under Siege Again”–Louise Benally on Livestock Impoundments

I have been out there and was considering going back. Unfortunately I don't know if I can really deal with stepping into a really tense situation. It's really beautiful out there, what they're doing is amazing and important and I really want to encourage people to go there and support.

Benefits of travelling by bike rather than walking?

i've been thinking about this question a bunch lately - not sure if you mean straight hoofing it cross-country or just standard hobo leather tramping - i got a nice bike recently and have never toured alone (or for more than a week in new england), and i'm starting to worry about just going out...

    Bike busk brigade

yeah i have a pretty legit touring bike and cart, a banjo, accordion and fiddle. a mandolin i'm thinkng of selling and the banjo isn't really mine. so im not exactly sure what i'm going to narrow it down to - im a better accordionist than fiddler...

    Bike busk brigade

I've always thought it would be awesome to do a bicycle-mounted band tour. I'm planning to live off my bike around the southwest and beyond and definitely bringing an instrument to busk with, maybe fiddle, although I'm better at accordion (maybe both? banjo??) anyway start a desert bike folk...

    Atheism and Anarchism

I guess I'm kinda a religious/spiritual anarchist - I'm very connected to my roots in the Jewish culture and the many parallels it has with eastern and indigenous traditions, and it has a lot to do with my outlook on life. For starters, capitalism and the left are agreed that the universe is...

News & Blogs Some thoughts on crusty anarcho travelers

To anyone who's worried about having missed something...don't. I used to know magpie. We never liked each other but were very much part of the same scene, which he describes with so much romanticism here. I'm not trying to talk shit - his work is out there, form your own opinion, I don't...

    dogs on bikes?

According to my research, bob trailers are kinda cheap, shitty and unstable to begin with, so I definitely wouldn't put my friend in a knockoff. I suggest you keep CLing for a two-wheeled trailer that is of good quality (or upgradable to same). Safety first!... Good luck and I would love to hear...

    Photos Lets see those bikes!

actually the nomad is rated to 100lbs according to their website. i found a used one on craigslist for a decent price so i got it. it has already had the hitch replaced. i don't really want to take 100lbs of gear with me anyway, so i think i'll be ok. now i just need to sew on some weatherproof...

    bikes on trains/fixie touring

it's all good, didn't really think you were necessarily saying that. i might have come off a little touchy too; anyone who rides fixed has heard plenty about how they're stupid, dangerous and 'for hipsters'. i do realize that some people who lead shallow lives are into it mainly for the...

    bikes on trains/fixie touring

in all fairness matt i think maybe you were the original 'derailleur'...! im not really want to have this argument, it happens on every bike forum ever - but if my taste in bikes overlaps with 'hipster trends' that's no reason for you or anyone else to assume that i'm doing it to just follow the...

    bikes on trains/fixie touring

many years ago i was riding trains in the pnw with this kid and we brought bikes with us. mine was some old roadie i built at a bike library in northeast pdx, bright white frame - not very stealth. i ditched it after a few hops, even though it was a pretty cool thing to have, it just seemed too...

    in the city of dust

i had an account here a long time ago; not even sure what the name was. a new intro seems fitting for a couple reasons. i stopped traveling and squatting to go to college (i know, i know); now i have $20k in debt and a piece of paper no one cares about... it wasn't all bad; i did figure a few...
