Well myself, my boyfriend and five month old are first time homeless thanks to covid. Basically I've called or emailed every homeless shelter, church group and community outreach program in my city. Columbus, Indiana. And the four surrounding cities. Most never get back to me. Others refuse to help cause I'm not a resident of their city, cause we aren't married etc. So just getting on here for any types and points if you guys know the area. Since we're gonna be in a tent. So any advice and such will be welcomed and a great help.

Welcome aboard!

I am way (well, not waaay) north here in Kokomo, but Indiana is pretty much the same everywhere right now.

Being that you are close to Brown County State Park, you may entertain pitching near there. Also, if you can make it to Nashville, the people there are pretty helpful - they may have work for you and your BF at the restaurants, and could exchange work for shelter. I believe there is a shelter in Brown County, too, but don't quote me.

In Bloomington, you have slightly more options due to the city's proximity to several interstates and being home to IU.

With the eviction moratorium lifted in Indiana on the 14th, expect evictions (and homelessness) to skyrocket all around you.

Does your boyfriend (or you) qualify for food stamps, unemployment assistance or the likes?

Rental assistance was part of the CARES Act; the application MAY apply for new rentals, IDK. That link is here.

I've tried pretty much applying to everything. Hell I even got denied while pregnant with my daughter. Though might see if I can figure out a way to brown county and such. Thanks for the info.

As summer is almost over I would suggest heading south , it is hard enough surviving winter without shelter as an adult , hopefully ypu have a vehicle , if not there are ride shares (be careful who you trust) and find a better city and keep your gaurd up.
