Advice on getting a flight?

I be goddamned if I spend my last days in a middle-of-nowhere town filled with a bunch of goddamn rednecks whom I can't stand and who don't get me, so I'm going to get a plane ticket and go someplace else.

Any recommendations for getting a ticket somewhere? South America, Asia, or Europe?

Momondo's website usually has deals but you may have to buy in advance

Yeah, yeah, I got that covered!

Wait, what about a work visa?

all that info is online, work visas can get complicated but sure they exist... although they favor younger, more educated and/or skilled, and healthy people without any criminal background, and they can be expensive.... how old are you? if you wanna save up like 8 or so grand and yr younger than 30 you might wanna look into working holiday shit in aus or new zealand...

as for south america i dunno much about work visas yet but check out spirit airlines and brush up on yr spanish

Well, I mean...My mustache is already on my face, and the poncho goes over my torso, so...Unless I can transplant my mustache to my ass cheeks and wrap my poncho around my head.

Flights from Chicago to Cancun right now are $67. Imagine it's similar going from other airports near you. Just a thought, it won't ever be cheaper to get down there. Make sure you buy a return ticket as well or they won't let you through immigration!

What's there at Cancun?

Cancun itself it a tourist shithole, but nearby there's some pretty cool stuff. Valladolid is a town about 3 hours away by bus and pretty sweet, there's lots of Mayan ruins around as well. Plenty of jungle around if you want to sleep rough, but I've never tried it so can't speak to the safety of doing that. Most hostels will run you about $15 a night. A decent restaurant meal is $5 or so. Not free but cheaper than most places. Keep in mind you won't be able to work and may get trapped down there due to this whole coronavirus thing so if you go make sure you have enough money to survive for a while!
Also, it helps if you speak Spanish but most people in the larger cities there speak English. You're much less likely to get scammed/overcharged if you can speak the language though

I should get some more school money soon, but I've got this odd feeling like I need to stay here for now.

I hate it because I was JUUUST about to finally leave home when all THIS shit happens. But I need to be here in case my family needs me, and I don't really know how going abroad is going to help me without any long-term plan.

But I would love to see Valladolid some day soon.

And I've always told myself that I never want to die in Tennessee. Or lonely. Or unfulfilled.

It's kind of like that song, you know? "Should I stay or should I go?"

The smart thing to do, as well as the courageous thing to do, would be to stand with my community and people I have befriended over the last few months, volunteer at the soup kitchen, and focus on my online classes while at home, so I can at least be useful in learning useful skills like Python, and help prevent the spread of disease, and keep an eye on my family.

At the same time, the last two years of my life here in Tennessee have been the most bullshit lonely two years of my life, and I'll be Goddamned if I die in a place that's made me feel so lonely and trapped in the rat race.

If I stay, I can help keep the spread down globally, and help my community, and stay with my uh, missionary friends, but there's no telling where things will go, and I may end up stuck here for God knows how long, and I know it's a struggle to keep myself healthy and sane while living with my pops, especially with all THIS shit going down.

If I go to Cancun, that would be reckless, and maybe even considered cowardly, but my family would support my decision regardless, I could find ways to be useful in Mexico, and I can see new things, and definitely won't be in Tennessee anymore.

It's about caring for yourself versus caring for society as a whole, and the latter is more important at the moment imo. Plus, travel is probably not fun at all if everything is shut down.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. No point in traveling if everyone is going to be afraid of you and you're at risk of creating so much chaos.

On a side note do you think joining the Mormons is a good call to adventure?

I'm sorry, I guess I'm just kind of tired and stressed out from school, and then letting this hijack my attention. Still, the right decision that lines up with who I want to make myself into is to self-quarantine, work on my coursework and book reading, try to stay physically and mentally healthy, and help my cute Mormon friends with volunteer work.

Jesus H. Fuck, no! They are bugfuck crazy; 2 close friends are ex-Mormons. I suppose you already know about God's Magic Underwear and getting your dick anointed in church? On the plus side, they will have lots of food, because they all have to have a month's supply stored away.

You might also be interested to know that they only decided black folks are fully human in 1978, and might not be cursed by God after all.

Well, here's the funny thing, the church I go to, they have blacks, whites, Hispanics, mixed people, I'm actually friends with someone from the church nearby. It's the first time in awhile that anyone's ever invited me to their home and fed me and not be my own family. Not that I'm knocking my own family.

I'm still a healthy bit of skeptic about the LDS, but sometimes I wonder if my skepticism keeps me from adventure. But yeah I know about the magic underwear, never heard of the dick anointing, though.

Really they haven't talked to me at all about any past issues with the church, though they've alluded to the fact that they accept members of different races now by pointing out that one of the Apostles or something is, I think black or some American Indian or something?
