what's up friends,

So this maybe a personal question to ask everyone but seeing as how I don't think I'll ever get one (due to family religious reason- which I have no clue of.. But a promise i made with my grams will ultimately forbid me even tho I'm 3 outta 10+ grandkids who do not have them now)

Why, what, where, when, how & regrets do you have for your tattoos? I've been around people who have gotten plenty and it seems hit or miss for pain? Care to explain something I may never do (without regret) ? Seems to be a big cultural thing among travelers- which is why I'm asking

among travelers, I wish. seems to be a big hit now with everyone. everybody's got one now, even the little girls turned freshly eighteen but looking like they barely been touched in their life. not much for tattoos myself but I do have one which I didn't get done for aesthetic reasons but for me to look down at and remember like a photograph something I had been thinking at a particular time in my life. the pain was nothing, honestly. though I've heard that scalp are a lot more painful, something which I was considering for awhile after seeing the movie zboys / lords of dogtown.

I guess I see where you're coming from.

although a little closed minded in my opinion- with all do respect.

I'm no conformist- or rather I am.. due to my 'normal' upbringing.

but I believe a mans only as good as his word- which is why I have chosen to not get a tattoo.

I do not judge anyone by their tattoos solely; which is why I am seeking people & their particular tattoo / its meaning. I may have came across as tattoos are a thing of regret or stupidity.

I don't *really* care that you have one, two, three, twenty. I am simply asking why you chose what & why?

now, if you want to keep believing us tattoo-less corporate conformist snowmen are too bland to fill such a worthy canvas then please- go right ahead.

anyone who would like to participate and give a corporate conformist snowmen some insight into the world unknown. Please do so,

thanks;

My last post is irrelevant now, But I appreciate the responds.

That's kind of my true fear.

How do you know you will want something forever?

There is songs and pictures that even though I appreciate and respect- I don't want to be reminded of such desperate times I suppose

Tattooing is an art form like any other, maybe more unique in some other cases. Of course some cultures don't like them but others love them more, its give and take. I love having tattoos, I love being covered in art work by different artists, my tattoos aren't for other people, all are custom to my body, they make me feel good and I enjoy looking at them everyday.

Ive had my tattoo for about 15 years now and I keep wanting another one ever since but just have not had the cash. Pain was easy to deal with and from what I hear it's the same for everyone that does not get a tattoo on bone or cartilage. Your right a man is only as good as his word which is why I always try to tie down any loopholes in any agreement I make. .... Did she leave you a opening?

i have alot, i worked as a shop boy for some years and they kinda came with the job. i dont regret any of them, although some are much better done then others. as far as traveler tattoos sure ive met alot of folks on the road who have tattoos but i wouldnt say its part of the culture, i have a few that are related to that part of my life one of them was done by a person who i worked with who had the same hobby as me (trains) so that ones kinda special to me, even if its not well done.

I have several tats - couple big ones on my back, left sleeve, couple big ones on right arm, fishy on the ankle. Only one I regretted was my first one - but that is gone now and covered up by a big feral fairy on my back. Love my body art. Getting ready to do some work on my lower left leg this winter.

Yea thats what I've heard. Most don't hurt- unless its on bone or cartilage. Makes sense though, not as much fatty tissue to absorb the impact

& nahh no loopholes. She was a religious person & the promise stems from that. I wouldn't be a family outcast if I decided to get one, though.

I really like sleeves; especially on a women. & I can see why you would get a tattoo- expression of yourself, feels, interests & beauty. it truly is an art.

Thanks for sharing everyone, great responds

I don't have many tattoos but of the ones I do have the one my left wrist is by far the most meaningful. I got it as a reminder that we don't get to choose the people who come into our life and love. That it all happens randomly and most of the time without much reason.

It's my personal reminder that random acts of kindness and love mean more to me than anything I could have ever planned.

My other two are a pseudo tramp stamp and a drunken stick and poke.

Yeah man. There kinda like wearing a mohawk. Its an expression of yourself n there not for everyone. I only regret the girls name i had tattood on me. But i got it covered with a bad ass wolf ripping through my stomach. Hey no more regrets lol. All covered up
I've had my hawk since I was 9! My mom cried the one time she saw me without it.

As for tats, of my 15+ I only have one I used to regret. Now I have a fun story.
(Note: I'm the classic Irish stereotype. Red hair, work hard, drink twice as hard. All I'm missing is being Catholic!)

"You know how the Irish are stereotyped as being drunks? Well I got so fuckin drunk I couldn't remember what the colors of an Irish flag were."

Thus the Italian flag on the back of my leg.

But each of my tats are part of who I am. Some for personal reasons, some for family. My ink is as much a part of me as the blood in my veins.

A barcode I got a a biker shop when I was 18... it bled and is a black square now. Whatever, i can't see it as it's on the back of my neck. The Arecibo radio message on my arm. Otherwise, just scars.

I'm up to seven, personally.

I saw the back and forth in the first few posts about conformity and nonconformity and how it used to be exclusive and now everyone's got one. You'll drive yourself nuts if you try to decode "what's cool" and "what's acceptable". Don't waste your time. Tattoos are a personal decision - end of story.

I have no regrets with any of my ink. Each one has (or had) special significance in my life. I always had a rule that I would never get a tattoo unless I waited 3 months. Helps avoid buyer's remorse. It's totally cool if what you get a tattoo of today isn't relevant to you 10 years from now. It's okay for them to become historical artifacts of your life - a sort of pictorial autobiography...

3 of my 7 pieces are readily visible, so I'm probably out of the running for corporate jobs. (Not that I'd ever want to work one again.) I hate the bias against people with tattoos. In my profession, some of the most despicable people I know wear suits and ties and look otherwise presentable. The most heavily inked people I know tend to be the friendliest, kindest, and most intelligent people I know.

In other words, don't judge a person by his skin. Something you'd think we all could have learned by now...

At important turning points in my life I've gotten tattooed if I could afford it. Its best to come up with ideas and toy with them over months if not years before going under the "gun" and it should have meaning to you, lots of friends have had remorse for spur of the moment ink. Growing up all the adults I knew that had served in the military even as far back as WW2 had ink and I was fascinated, much more so than with the gaudy skulls and shit bikers always get (to each their own). I've always stuck to my own rule that all ink can be covered by a short sleeve shirt with a collar/ shorts, keep in mind a tattoo is as unique as a finger print and is permanent. Always stuck to black ink too because colours fade and require much more upkeep and hell its just so classic! As far as pain levels the closer to bone or a joint the more pain, for example the back of the neck over the spine hurts more than the sides. The stigma around tattoos just didn't exist in my household even though my parents did not have any ink.

I just started on my left arm, doing them myself (yeah stick n' poke, but I'm using real tat needles and ink). Going to be cave drawings based off of Lascaux and Chauvet art. Paleo art and culture means a lot to me (want to pick up flint knapping in the future too). Also want a whale on my left calf and a few other things where I can reach lol.

Eventually I want my right arm done professionally in a space theme as a sort of thematic yin yang to my left arm. Just will be a while before I can afford it.
