I'm roadtripping across the US with a friend at the moment--- driving from San Diego to Vegas tomorrow (Tuesday). We're both dudes in our early twenties (25 and 22).

The goal of this trip is to do any sort of favors we can for local people in each city in a pay it forward type fashion. We're making a documentary about this idea of "microvolunteering". Things I can definitely do include manual labor, driving, and bartending. Let me know if there's anything I can for you.

(related: if anyone is in vegas and has a couch/floor we could crash on, that would be cool too otherwise we can just camp in the car)

Sounds like a fun trip idea with a purpose. Are you putting (advertising) your idea out there in some other media - craigslist? Facebook? etc. Look through the couchsurfing scene? I welcome travelers anyway but hey I have all sorts of things to do - and I do a lot of work in the community, er volunteering, hehe- can also find things for you to do :) Have fun and stay safe

What a great idea! Thought: you could hook up with local chapters of Food Not Bombs, bike collectives, or DIY art/music spaces along the way. Those folks are always in need of a hand. Plus they tend to be of a like mind with travellers.

Or you could get in contact with people who have projects on the go through the Time Banks' network. It's sort of like a barter system; however there's nothing to say you have to cash in your chips at any time. (I believe these things run strictly on a local basis- you might be able to rig something so you could transfer your hours to a bank in another town though in case you end up needing a mechanic or some such.)

I'm so excited to read your posts about how this works out!
