"A Single
Black Rose"
a single black rose
alone in the dark forest night
it's contempt reflected by thorns of spite
creatures of the shadows give sudden flight
as into the meadow, i creep into sight
closer now, i can feel it's glow
casting blue light upon the snow
i feel it's warmth in this cold world
it's scent, a reminder of things left untold
from it, i look up into the trees
reminded what it is to live free
back down upon it i can finally see
with more clarity the rose, the world, and me
to keep this feeling of elation
i try to pick the rose in desperation
a prick of blood, and i understand
as i look back upon my heart and hand
a vase, a cage, that is hell
this is a feeling i know all too well
standing now, i look into the dark
stepping into the shadows i slowly depart
in the darkness i try to keep
the things the rose gave to me
the will to love, life, and hope
and despite the darkness, the ability to cope.
