Rubbertramp touring the Southwest USA. Photographing the beautiful places, hiking the Gila, fishing, art, woodcarving, reading, and my two cats are some of the things I love.

I grew up in South Texas and left as soon as I could for Big Bend National Park working a variety of jobs including waiter, cook, gas station attendant, and store clerk. After a few years there, wanderlust got the best of me and I drove to Alaska. There I worked for a charter flight company, and then big oil where I was a photographer and event coordinator. After 8 years of alternately loving and hating AK, I began a new career managing bookstores in national parks and monuments in California, Arizona and Washington. I then moved to Portland, OR and worked 8 years at Powell's Books, the world's largest independent bookstore. Missing the drier climates of the Southwest, I moved to Albuquerque and spent another 8 years selling books for the University of New Mexico Press.

Health issues became a problem and I was fortunate to get on disability which now permits me to live the life I've always longed for, being a nomad. I ditched my old life, bought a truck and travel trailer and spend as much time as possible exploring.

New Mexico is a vastly underrated state with mountains, forests and deserts that constantly amaze me in their wild beauty. The Gila Wilderness is huge, remote and incredible.

I never thought that I could be this happy as a 63yo gay man. Life has its surprises and I never know what's around the next bend in the road.
