Hey, everyone. At the point in my life to finally be greedy and just follow my dreams and passion. I never have fit in any where. Seems I grew up on the wrong side of town or just always let the wrong people in to my life. I'll probably be heading west to the world famous walk in commune. I was thinking about living primitive for a while. But I love people to much.

Thanks you the accept, I look forward to getting to know you all.

Hello, Troubadour! That sounds like a great adventure. :) I personally also hope to visit the Slab sometime soon, but probably closer to the time of the STP gathering. From my research, it looks like if a person is friendly yet cautious, one should be just fine (just like visiting anyplace else!). There are different neighborhoods there, and several places to explore, from skateboarding in an empty Olympic sized pool, to nightclubs that feature "talent shows," to restaurants, internet cafes, and a couple of libraries. My adult daughter and fiancee live in MKE and just got back from the Rainbow Gathering in Oregon. I could give them your info; they might be interested in meeting a new friend? Send me a PM with some info about you if you'd like.

Thank you for the welcome. When is the STP Gathering? That's cool you have family in Milwaukee. I wasn't thinking about going to the slab. From what I have read it is a pretty dicey place.

I've heard some bad about the slab but also some good as well. The STP gathering will be there, in mid to late October.

What commune are you thinking, if you don't mind sharing? Black Bear? Alpha Farm? or...?

I thought my first post was lost when I went to a different page, hence the duplication, sorry!

No matter where you end up, you'll look back on your decision to leave the Mil as one of the smartest you've ever made.

I read black bear is still a walk in. Other wise, I'm not sure. Have you been apart of any?

i just read on the Black Bear site that they prefer a call/email/letter in advance. you might consider doing that as a courtesy anyway.

i've not been a part of a commune for any length of time but i'm currently traveling around visiting intentional communities. there are a lot of great places, it just depends on what you're looking for. black bear ranch is pretty extreme and probably would be a difficult introduction to communal life for many.

I already planned on contacting them. I did not see a phone number.. hmm Many communes want large amounts of money, from what I have read. I have no problem working hard for a community. But wanting large amounts of cash upfront feels like consumerism. I want a place that is more off the grid and in the old world ways. I am pretty skilled at survival and primitive living. I grew up living off the farm field cooking on a Coleman stove. Sleeping in cars and hotels. Give me a few hours and I can turn a brush pile in to a burn proof Motel.
