In early April of 2013, a group of us got together to sail the SV Rocksteady to Fort Jefferson. This old civil war fort turned national park is located on the Dry Tortugas, a series of islands located 70 miles west of Key West, Florida.

Adam, Lauren, and Robert came out from Los Angeles to pay for the gas/supplies, Tyler provided the boat and sailing experience, while Ryan and myself were lucky enough to come along on the ride. It was a two day sail to the Tortugas, and in that time we drank a lot of rum, I sailed the boat in a few circles, and Tyler nearly convinced us that we should sail to Cuba instead.

We finally reached Fort Jefferson on the second day, and spent the next two days after that exploring the island, getting free food from the tourist ferry, and swimming in some of the clearest water we’d ever seen.

I’ve posted the pictures from this trip before, but I finally got off my ass and did something with the video I’ve had lying around from the journey and put it together into this fairly epic montage of sailing/urbex porn.

If you’d like to find other like-minded sailors, I’d suggest checking out the boat punk website, the sailing section of the StP forums, and signing up for the blue anarchy mailing list.
